Christian Fong is the CEO of Spruce Power and is a member of Board of Directors. At its acquisition, Spruce Power was the largest privately held residential solar owner/operator in North America, with over $1 billion distributed generation (DG) assets. Since 2018, Fong was the chairman and CEO of Spruce Holdings and grew the company by 150% prior to it being acquired by XL Fleet in 2022.
Christian joined Spruce Power in 2017 as an independent director, chosen by Spruce’s then-controlling investors Kleiner Perkins and Google Ventures. Christian has also served as an independent director on the boards of Terraform Power, Inc the world’s largest public independent renewable power producer, Pardus Oil & Gas, and Javlin Capital, LLC. In 2010, Christian co-founded Renewable Energy Trust Capital (RET). He served in various finance and operation executive roles through 2016, as RET acquired and developed over one billion dollars of wind and solar PV assets, representing 400+ MW of utility-scale, renewable power plants. RET was sold to Blue Mountain Capital in 2016.
Previously, Christian was a managing director and head of Real Estate Capital Markets at AEGON / Transamerica, where he led an acquisition team in a multi-billion dollar private equity platform and was responsible for both credit and structured finance innovations. Additionally, he served as CEO of Corridor Recovery, Inc, and as a consultant at McKinsey & Company. He continues to be active in policy discussions in the power and energy sector.
Christian earned an MBA with High Distinction from Dartmouth College’s Tuck School of Business, a B.S. in Statistics, summa cum laude, from Creighton University and the prestigious CFA and CCIM designations. He and his family reside near Denver, Colorado.
