Chris Hayes

Chris Hayes is Chair and serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Spruce Power. Chris is a visionary leader who has continually pioneered new markets while delivering exceptional financial results. Most recently Chris has been deeply involved in the clean energy and sustainability sector.

Currently, Chris is founder and managing partner of Alturus. Alturus invests in sustainable infrastructure projects. Chris was founder and managing partner at Altenex. They created and brought to market the “virtual power purchase agreement” which made it possible for Fortune 500 companies to purchase offsite wind power. This contract structure remains the industry standard today and resulted in over $5bn in transactions through Altenex.

Chris received his BSBA in Finance from the University of Denver. He enjoys spending time outdoors on the ocean and in the mountains with his family.

Eric Tech

Eric Tech is a member of Spruce Power’s Board of Directors. Eric has nearly 35 years of automotive and mobility industry experience and has held senior leadership positions at Navistar International Corporation and Ford Motor Company. He most recently served as Senior Vice President of Corporate Development at Navistar, a publicly traded global manufacturer and marketer of medium and heavy-duty vehicles and parts.

Among other accomplishments spanning his 15-year career at Navistar, Eric successfully developed the blueprint for Navistar’s strategic direction and further global expansion, including executing on transformational growth opportunities, identifying potential global alliances, and driving profitability. At Ford, Eric held senior level positions including Chief Engineer for Super Duty Trucks, where he managed nearly $2 billion in new product programs, and led various product development, efficiency and cost saving initiatives.

A native of Detroit, Eric holds a BSME and an MBA from the University of Michigan.

Kevin Griffin

Kevin Griffin is a member of Spruce Power's Board of Directors. Kevin founded MGG Investment Group in 2014 and is the CEO and CIO of the firm. Prior to launching MGG, he was a Managing Director with Highbridge Principal Strategies, where he was a senior member of the Specialty Lending Platform and a Member of the Highbridge Credit Committee. Previously, he was the Head of Private Investing for Octavian Funds, a $1.4 billion hedge fund focused on global investing across debt and equity structures. Before Octavian, Kevin was part of Fortress Investment Group (NYSE: FIG) in charge of originating and underwriting investment opportunities for the Drawbridge Special Opportunities Fund. Prior to Fortress, he was an investor with one of the first publicly traded BDCs, American Capital (NASDAQ: ACAS), where he was involved in numerous equity buyout and subordinated debt investments.

Kevin began his career with Houlihan Lokey Howard & Zukin’s Investment Banking Division, focusing primarily on distressed M&A and financial restructurings. During his 20-year career, he has originated and invested over $5 billion across the capital structure of middle market businesses, including distressed and 363 bankruptcy purchases, and has led all structuring and legal documentation with a focus on capital preservation and protecting rights in bankruptcy. Post-investment, he has sat on numerous boards of directors and has implemented various restructuring changes and targeted distressed and opportunistic acquisition opportunities. The M&A Advisor in May 2015 named Kevin a winner of its 40 Under 40 Emerging Leaders Award. He earned his BSBA in Finance from Georgetown University.

Jon Ledecky

Jon Ledecky is a member of Spruce Power's Board of Directors. He is co-owner of the New York Islanders in the National Hockey League. Jon is also a private equity investor who has been the co-founder or initial investor in companies that have raised over $20 billion in financing.

Jon founded U.S. Office Products in 1994 and by 1997 the Company had become the fastest entrant in the history of the Fortune 500 with annualized sales of nearly $4 billion. U.S. Office Products owned Mail Boxes, Etc. (now the UPS Store) and several other brands that eventually became independent public and private companies. He has served on over 15 public company boards during his career.

Jon is an honors graduate of Harvard College and also graduated from Harvard Business School. Jon served on the National Commission on Entrepreneurship and at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. He has also been honored as the Anti-Defamation League Man of the Year and was the International Franchise Association’s “Free Enterprise Award” winner.

John Miller

John Miller, has over 40 years of broad-based executive management experience in the manufacturing, distribution, and transportation industries. John has served in senior finance and leadership roles at public and private companies across a range of industry categories.

From 2017 to 2021, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Power Solutions International, Inc., a publicly traded leader in the design, engineering and manufacture of a broad range of advanced, emission-certified engines and power systems.

From 2008 until 2016, John served in operational and financial management positions of increasing responsibility at Navistar International Corporation ("Navistar"), a global vehicle manufacturer and solutions provider including as senior vice president operations and corporate finance.

Prior thereto, he served in the role of chief financial officer of Laidlaw Education Services a leading provider of school bus transportation services, Chicago Metallic Corporation, a global manufacturer of suspended ceiling and metal products, Fleetpride, Inc., a distributor of heavy duty truck parts, and Peapod, an online grocery delivery company. John received his Master of Business Administration from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from DePauw University.

Christian Fong

Christian Fong is the CEO of Spruce Power and is a member of Board of Directors. At its acquisition, Spruce Power was the largest privately held residential solar owner/operator in North America, with over $1 billion distributed generation (DG) assets. Since 2018, Fong was the chairman and CEO of Spruce Holdings and grew the company by 150% prior to it being acquired by XL Fleet in 2022.

Christian joined Spruce Power in 2017 as an independent director, chosen by Spruce’s then-controlling investors Kleiner Perkins and Google Ventures. Christian has also served as an independent director on the boards of Terraform Power, Inc the world’s largest public independent renewable power producer, Pardus Oil & Gas, and Javlin Capital, LLC. In 2010, Christian co-founded Renewable Energy Trust Capital (RET). He served in various finance and operation executive roles through 2016, as RET acquired and developed over one billion dollars of wind and solar PV assets, representing 400+ MW of utility-scale, renewable power plants. RET was sold to Blue Mountain Capital in 2016.

Previously, Christian was a managing director and head of Real Estate Capital Markets at AEGON / Transamerica, where he led an acquisition team in a multi-billion dollar private equity platform and was responsible for both credit and structured finance innovations. Additionally, he served as CEO of Corridor Recovery, Inc, and as a consultant at McKinsey & Company. He continues to be active in policy discussions in the power and energy sector.

Christian earned an MBA with High Distinction from Dartmouth College’s Tuck School of Business, a B.S. in Statistics, summa cum laude, from Creighton University and the prestigious CFA and CCIM designations. He and his family reside near Denver, Colorado.
